1.
In the dark hours of morning in half words she whispers Confessing her love through a light sleep in winter While outside the rain melts the falling white snow As dawn approaches with sorrow I leave her But I will take with me all those sleepy confessions And her words will thaw me like rain melts the snow She tells her love half asleep She tells her love half asleep Through the white morning my mind lays with her Watching her sleep and hearing her whisper And I am not lonely and I am not cold She tells her love half asleep She tells her love half asleep Despite the snow I am so warm Despite the snow I am so warm Despite the snow I am so warm For she tells her love half asleep She tells her love half asleep She tells her love half asleep She tells her love half asleep
2.
He only sees shadows behind shadows And he’s been like this a while For he keeps forgetting that every shadow Needs light to survive He has been lost And I followed like any good friend And I carried him as far as I could But when I let go he just turned back This is how it’s meant to be Apparently this is for a reason This is how it’s meant to be But we can’t seem to find a reason He is the victim and the culprit Of his own crime And I tried to be a mirror So that this he might realise I’ve been breathing for the two of us And now I am so tired My patience has fallen hard For he’s not even trying This is how it’s meant to be Apparently this is for a reason This is how it’s meant to be But we can’t seem to find the reason

about

A-side “Despite The Snow”, the title of Emily Barker’s second studio album now reveals itself as a song written to accompany a short, silent film by Patti Gaal Holmes which in turn was inspired by the subject of dreams and by Robert Graves' love poem called 'she tells her love whilst half asleep.'

AA-side track “This Is How It's Meant To Be” was recorded in a live take during The Granary Barn album sessions one snowy weekend in last March, with the four members of the Red Clay Halo (Emily on acoustic guitar and vocal, Gill Sandell on accordion, Jo Silverston on cello and Anna Jenkins on violin) sitting around a few microphones, a couple of electric bar heaters and with blankets over knees.
